Port Chicago is passed to our south. This Naval port is still an active naval weapons station, which transports supplies and munitions to all points of the globe. Nearing the Carquinez Straights, the huge fleet of reserve vessels totaling nearly 80 battleships, oilers, destroyers and merchant ships comes into view. The most famous of these is the USS Iowa, moored on the end of a row, she is easily visible to our guests. The Iowa served as the platform for the surrender ceremony of WWII in mid-Pacific with President Roosevelt aboard. Our narration discusses all of the rich history associated with one of the largest reserve fleet of ships ever assembled. We can navigate as close as 500 feet to these steel icons of our countries Naval power. Returning to Pittsburg, we pass close by some small remote islands as well as the scenic wetlands of Honker Bay. A local historian will be on board to discuss this rich history. **The City of San Francisco is in the process of dismantling the ships and has already taken 20 ships away over the last couple of years. This unique trip will be a very memorable and may not be available in the future
